Businessman Petitions Police, Accuses Sheikh Gumi Of Accomodating His Estranged Moroccan Wife
A Kaduna-based businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has petitioned the Nigerian Police Force over what he described as the refusal of prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to release his Moroccan wife, Khadija Daib, Daily Nigerian reports.
According to sources, Mr Idris’ troubles began shortly after he introduced Sheikh Gumi to his Moroccan wife during a chance meeting at a shopping mall. The cleric, who is also married to a Moroccan woman named Amal, introduced his wife to Khadija, as both women hail from the same country.
“After that brief introduction, the two Moroccan women became close friends, and Khadija started visiting Gumi’s residence frequently,” a source familiar with the matter said.
Mr Idris claims that since a misunderstanding in September, his wife has remained at the cleric’s home, and all his attempts to have her return to their matrimonial home have been unsuccessful.
In a petition dated October 27 and signed by his lawyers, M.K. Associates, the businessman stated that he lawfully married Khadija in Morocco after completing the necessary documentation at the Nigerian Embassy in the country.
The petition reads in part:
“On 21st October 2024, our client legally married Khadija Daib after following all due documentation processes at the Nigerian Embassy in Morocco. The marriage was later solemnised in Nigeria. They lived peacefully until he introduced her to Amal, the Moroccan counterpart living at 14b Dende Road, Kaduna.
“Our client simply wanted his wife to connect with a fellow Moroccan. However, Amal negatively influenced her and instigated her against him.”
Speaking on Rigar Kaya, a Hausa programme on Lumana FM, Mr Idris narrated that the two women initially met at Dialogue Pharmacy in Kaduna.
He recounted that on September 16, while he was visiting his first wife, Khadija called and requested an urgent meeting. When he arrived, she demanded that he divorce his first wife as a condition for continuing their marriage. The argument escalated, and although he asked her to wait until he returned from work, she insisted on following him.
“At my office, she refused to step out of the car, so I left her there and went inside,” he said.
Mr Idris added that Khadija later contacted Sheikh Gumi’s wife to report their disagreement. According to him, the cleric invited the couple to his residence but, upon their arrival, instructed Mr Idris to leave his wife behind and return later.
“Since that day, my wife has refused to come back home. Anytime I go there, I am told she is no longer interested in the marriage,” he alleged.
The businessman said all efforts to persuade his wife to return have so far failed.
