Baring any last minute change of mind, the APC Unity Group may have settled for the pair of Barrister Olusola Oke and R.O. Kazeem to slug it out with incumbent Governor Oluwarotimj Akeredolu in the party’s Governorship Primaries to be held ahead of the election proper.
The Unity group has been having a tough time with Governor Akeredolu whom members of the group say his high handedness is causing the party a great misfortune.
The group which has not been giving the state governor a rest almost after the 2017 governorship election has vowed to dislodge him from the Alagbaka Government house by thrashing his second time bid.
Ever since, the group has been holding countless meetings and strategies in this wise.
In the latest meeting which is still going on at the time of filing this report, members under the leadership of Alhaji Olnusi Alli, a former Deputy Governor in the state, have converged in an undisclosed place in Akure the state capital trying to put finishing touches to its choice.
A source privy to the meeting said the group has finally settled for the choice of Barrister Olusola Oke, who is from the South Senatorial District of Tue state to fly the flag of the group in the party primaries coming up later in the year while Barrister R.O. Kazeem, another aspirant form the Northern Senatorial District is to deputise him.
According to the source, the group is favourably disposed to the choice of Olusola Oke, who members say has a large following in his domain.
Besides, the group believes Tue antecedent of Oke as a Governorship candidate both under the PDP and the AD is an asset to the group in the primaries if it goes the way of direct primaries which it has been clamouring for.
Similarly, the source. Barrister Kazeem is the choice for the deputy governor position because he was a two time commissioner in the state.
Besides, the source said the group also want to use Kareem’s choice to placate the Muslims who have not been having it good in the political terrain of the state.
According to the source, since Akeredolu is going into the primaries with his current depaut, Barrister Agboola Ajayi, which is a Christian/Christian ticket, the Unity group will be better with a Christian/Muslim ticket since Kazeem is a Muslim.
Meanwhile, the group is expected to announce its choice in the next 48 hours baring any unforseen circumstances.
However supporters of Governor Akeredolu have stated that whatever game the Unity group want to play, their candidate is ready and also confident of winning in any way, either direct or indirect primary as well as go on to win the October 10 Governorship elections.
