Bandits Kill top Political Figure After Collecting N15 Million Ransom

Armed b@ndits have k+lled Hon. Mu’azu Zannan Gwashi, a prominent political leader in Zamfara State, despite collecting part of the ransom demanded for his release. He had spent five months in captivity after being k+dn@pped during an att@ck on July 22, 2025.

The incident occurred along the Manyaci–Bukkuyum road when g¥nmen ambushed the vehicle carrying PDP Chairman Hon. Muhammad Sala Wuta and others. Wuta sustained gunsh%t wounds to his hand and leg, while three people, including Gwashi, were abd¥cted.

The k+dn@ppers initially demanded N30 million, later reduced it to N15 million, and collected the payment. However, they refused to free Gwashi, insisting on an additional N15 million before release.

Security analyst Malam Bakatsine said on X that the captors repeatedly changed their demands, calling the ordeal a tragic example of the ongoing cycle of extortion. Local residents and social media users mourned Gwashi’s d+ath, offering prayers and expressing grief.

Zamfara continues to face persistent att@cks and k+dn@ppings across several local government areas, with both civilians and officials frequently targeted. Despite ongoing security operations, b@nditry remains a major thr+at in the state.
