Bandits Attack Immigration Checkpoint, Abduct Officer, Steal Two AK-47 Rifles
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly overpowered the officers, seized two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and abducted one of the personnel, identified as Umar Yusuf.
Suspected bandits on motorcycles have attacked officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Balia village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting one officer and carting away two AK-47 rifles.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday along the Babana axis near the Nigeria–Benin Republic border.
It was gathered that the assailants, believed to have crossed in from the Benin Republic axis, were heading towards Babana Market when they intercepted the officers at an immigration checkpoint in Baliavillage.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly overpowered the officers, seized two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and abducted one of the personnel, identified as Umar Yusuf.
A second officer, Unisa Shehu, narrowly escaped from the scene but was left without his service weapon.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident, said following the attack, security operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, launched a manhunt in the surrounding forests to rescue the abducted officer and recover the stolen firearms.
“Security forces, local vigilantes and hunters were mobilised to the area, and efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted officer and recover the stolen rifles,” Zagazola said.
