Bandits Attack Farm In Oyo State, Abduct Indian National, Kill Police Officer
The attack occurred on January 16 at about 1pm at Aqua Triton Company, an agricultural farm, when approximately 10 bandits stormed the premises.
In a turn of events that has shaken Ogunmakin community near Ibadan, Oyo State, an Indian expatriate was abducted, and a police officer lost his life during a brazen attack on an agricultural farm.
The incident underscores the growing danger faced by law enforcement and civilians alike in the region.
The attack occurred on January 16 at about 1pm at Aqua Triton Company, an agricultural farm, when approximately 10 bandits stormed the premises.
“The bandits abducted 42-year-old Renjith Pillai, a company director, while he was inspecting crops,” a source told Zagazola Makama.
The source revealed that four Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers were on guard at the farm.
An inspector, Imoobe Prester, refusing to stand by, confronted the attackers in a brave attempt to protect the expatriate and prevent the kidnapping.
“During the encounter, the bandits shot Insp. Imoobe and fled into the bush with his AK-47 rifle after abducting the expatriate. The officer was rushed for medical attention but later died,” the source added.
Authorities immediately deployed a joint team—including personnel from Idi-Ayure Division, PMF, the command’s anti-kidnapping squad, other tactical units, local hunters, and vigilantes—to comb the surrounding bushes for the abductors and recover the stolen firearm.
According to the source, intelligence from villagers and farm workers is being used to track the suspects.
The corpse of the fallen officer has been deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue on Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.
The police continue to investigate the incident, appealing to the public for any information that could aid in rescuing the abducted expatriate and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The attack highlights both the growing threat of armed banditry in rural areas.
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State raised the alarm that bandits from the Northwest were fleeing to the state.
According to him, this development is due to a continued military onslaught in the Northwestern Nigeria which has forced the bandits to flee to Ibadan.
He made this assertion at the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers held in Agodi area of Ibadan, the state capital.
Makinde, however, vowed to smoke out the fleeing bandits and deal with them.
