Atiku’s Son, Abba Abubakar Explains Why He Abandoned His Father And Joined APC To Support Tinubu
Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former vice president Atiku Abubakar has offered explanation to his abandoning his father, Atiku Abubakar to support his father’s political rival, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
On January 15th, 2026, Abba Atiku Abubakar was received into the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) by deputy senate president Barau Jibrin alongside with the national vice chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), North East, Mustafa Salihu.
The development appears surprising especially as Abba Atiku Abubakar explained that his purpose of abandoning his father and switching allegiance to his father’s potential opponent in the 2027 presidential election is because he wants to work for the reelection of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
As a result, Abba Atiku Abubakar also announced that he has renamed a political support group he founded for his father to Tinubu’s support group. According to him, the Atiku Haske Organization which he founded in 2022 to support his father’s presidential quest has been renamed to Haske Bola Tinubu Organization.

The development has triggered reactions from Nigerians especially as some believe that Abba Atiku Abubakar’s recent act is a direct insult to his father who hopes to become the coalition party presidential candidate in 2027.
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar is also criticized for his inability to unite his family and secure the loyalty and support of his immediate family. Many argued that Abba Atiku Abubakar’s publicly abandoning his father’s political ambition is a humiliation to Atiku Abubakar and proof of poor leadership quality even kn his own family.
