Assault on Bolt-Driver by Lawmaker Alexander Ikwechegh: Emerging Leaders ask IGP to come out clean with outcome

by Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria (ELFON) on Rising National issues, Nigerians are asking questions concerning the outcome of the case of an assault on a Bolt Driver by a member of the federal house of Representatives, Alexander Ikwechegh.
Speaking at the congerence, the National President of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria, ELFON, Ambassador Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel stated that sometime in October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command took into custody a House of Representatives’ member, Alexander Ikwechegh who represents Aba North and South Constituency in Abia State after interrogation over allegation of assault on a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya.
After allegedly slapping Mr. Stephen, he reportedly remarked with contempt, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector-General of Police,” demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.
During the time of investigation under CP Olatunji Disu’s headship of the FCT Police Command, the emerging Leaders of Nigeria were promised impartial investigation and justice in the case and all youth related cases in the command and that upon completion of the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken”, Godstime stated.
“Today, We are asking to know the outcome of the matter concerning a Federal lawmaker who was caught on a viral video assaulting the driver sent to deliver an order to him his Maitama residence, Abuja.
“We suspect that Alexander was put through a kangaroo arraignment and given bail.
Since after the bail nothing has been heard of the case again. We call on the Nigerian Police to come clean on the matter and avert a national protest from Nigerian Youths”, Godstime further stated.
Ikwechegh was heard in the viral video saying he will make Mr Stephen miss and nothing will happen.
We will not let this case pass over like others. Today we hear that Senior Activist Sowore is to be arraigned for just making verbal statements and a federal lawmaker that physically assaulted a Nigerian Youth is moving around the streets free, he concluded.
