Another PDP Governor Set to Join APC, Official Declaration Expected Soon
The Adamawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Idris Shuaibu, has disclosed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has already aligned with the APC and is only awaiting a formal and ceremonial declaration, expected in the coming days.
Shuaibu made the revelation on Monday at the APC state secretariat in Yola while welcoming a governorship aspirant, Engineer Diaulhaq Abubakar, who formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the party’s platform.
According to the APC chairman, Governor Fintiri’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC is already concluded in principle. “Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is already in our party. What remains is the official and ceremonial declaration,” Shuaibu said, adding that the announcement is expected between now and the middle of the month, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
He further revealed that the APC is preparing for its convention scheduled to hold on or before the 20th of the month, with arrangements in place to formally receive the governor and his supporters ahead of the event. Shuaibu noted that extensive consultations have been completed to ensure a smooth and seamless integration of the governor and his political allies into the party.
While receiving Engineer Diaulhaq Abubakar, the chairman assured all new members of equal opportunities within the APC, stressing that dedication, loyalty, and commitment—not seniority—are what matter most in the party.
Shuaibu also expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects at the national level, describing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a tested and results-oriented leader. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown capacity and remains the best option for Nigeria,” he stated.
He disclosed that Engineer Diaulhaq Abubakar is the 15th aspirant to declare interest in contesting for the Dougeri Government House ahead of the 2027 governorship election, a development he said reflects the growing strength and appeal of the APC in Adamawa State.
Speaking to journalists, Engineer Diaulhaq said his decision to contest is driven by a desire to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and people-focused governance in the state. He pledged to boost internally generated revenue, invest in critical infrastructure, expand skills acquisition programmes for youths and women, and ensure even development across all parts of Adamawa State.
“I have a clear vision for inclusive development and a strong commitment to building a better Adamawa for everyone,” he said.
