Another Crisis Brews As Rivers Speaker Tackles Fubara Over Negligence Of Institutions
The Rivers state Assembly speaker, Martin Chike Amaewhule has on 29th of November, 2025, revealed that governor Sim Fubara inherited more than 600 billion naira from the Ibas administration.
He pointed that despite these outrageous amount of money being left in the Rivers state coffers that the Fubara’s administration has failed to effectively utilize the funds for the development of education institutions in the state. The speaker alleged that so many secondary and primary schools’ buildings lie desolate. He highlighted how most of these schools have leaking roofs, poor or no furniture, no library and generally lacking good learning environment.
Martin Chike Amaewhule thereafter vowed to investigate ministries and agencies to determine whether the Rivers state funds given to these agencies were efficiently utilized.
He boasted that the Rivers state assembly under his leadership is determined to holding governor Sim Fubara to account through its oversight function on the executive, maintaining that the Rivers state people are the priority of his leadership of the state assembly.
The latest allegation by Martin Chike Amaewhule has triggered many into asking whether governor Sim Fubara and the Rivers state house of Assembly leadership are set for another round of political drama.
Since his reinstatement at the end of the six month administration of vice admiral Ibok Ekwe, governor Fubara has consistently and openly declared his unwavering commitment to peace and cordial relationship with Rivers state house of assembly. However, with the recent allegation of misappropriation of funds from Speaker Martin Chike Amaewhule against Fubara’s government, it appears that the peace brokered by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers state, is gradually eroding.

This is as speculations have it that Fubara is considering seeking reelection in 2027 at the expense of political godfather, Nyesom Wike’s will. Wike is said to have concluded that he will not endorse Fubara for second term due to his earlier betrayal and disloyalty.
The political future of governor Fubara remains uncertain as 2027 draws near despite calls by civil society groups for the governor to seek reelection in 2027.
