Airtel Africa to Launch Starlink Direct-to-Cell Service in 14 Countries

Airtel Africa has partnered with SpaceX’s Starlink to provide satellite direct-to-cell connectivity across its 14 markets, serving 174 million customers.

Launching in 2026, the service will enable compatible smartphones to access text and data in remote and underserved areas without traditional towers.

The deal also supports Starlink’s next-gen broadband, offering up to 20× faster speeds, aiming to boost digital inclusion and emergency communications across Africa.
