As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off in Morocco on Sunday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the prize money on offer for participating teams.

The financial rewards are structured to incentivize performance at every stage of the tournament:

$500,000 – Teams finishing 4th in their group

$700,000 – Teams finishing 3rd in their group and failing to qualify for the knockout phase

$800,000 – Round of 16 losers

$1.3 million – Quarter-final losers

$2.5 million – Semi-final losers

$4 million – Runners-up

$7 million – Tournament champions

CAF’s prize distribution highlights the growing financial stakes in African football, rewarding teams not only for participation but also for progression through the knockout stages.

The tournament, which brings together the continent’s top footballing nations, promises intense competition both on and off the pitch, as teams vie for glory and substantial financial incentives.
