Adesina set date to Step Down as AfDB President, Bids Nigeria Farewell
President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has announced that his decade-long tenure will officially end on September 1, 2025. He made the announcement on Saturday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone in Atan-Ijaye, Oyo State. Adesina described the moment as his final official visit to Nigeria in his current capacity.
Reflecting on his journey since assuming office in 2015, Adesina highlighted the bank’s remarkable growth from $93 billion to $318 billion in capital. He credited Nigeria’s support for the institution’s transformation and thanked President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other key stakeholders for their unwavering backing.
Adesina also praised Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for revitalising the Fashola Farm Settlement with over ₦11 billion in investments. He underscored the importance of agricultural value chains and announced that Phase II of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones will commence in September.
