Before Any Brother Marries in Our Church, He Must Show One Month’s Bank Statement” — Apostle Johnson Suleman

Apostle Johnson Suleman has announced a new marriage policy for intending couples in his church, requiring men preparing for marriage to present a recent bank statement as part of the church’s premarital process.

Speaking to members of Omega Fire Ministries, Suleman said he recently instructed the church’s marriage committee to introduce the requirement for men seeking approval to marry.

According to him, two weeks before the wedding, the prospective husband will be required to present a one-month account statement to the committee.

Suleman explained that the purpose is not to determine how much money the man has saved, but to establish whether he has a regular source of income.

“I’m not looking for account balance because you can go and rent money and put. We want to be sure that there is inflow,” he said.

He maintained that the amount coming into the account does not necessarily have to be large, saying even an inflow of ₦10,000 or ₦20,000 would demonstrate that the man has some means of providing for his future wife.

Suleman acknowledged that the policy could attract criticism but said he was prepared to stand by it because the church wants some assurance that a prospective husband can take responsibility for basic needs.

He also extended his message to women preparing for marriage, saying a woman should have learnt a skill or craft even if she does not currently have the money to establish a business.

According to Suleman, the church should delay setting a wedding date for a woman who has not learnt anything productive, while someone who already possesses a skill can work towards securing the resources needed to put it into practice.
