Iranian Officials Fear Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei May Die Soon –Report

The sources told IranWire that Khamenei’s prolonged absence from public view has heightened concerns within Iran’s ruling establishment, with senior political figures reportedly questioning his physical condition and ability to govern.

Senior Iranian officials are increasingly concerned about the health of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, with rumours reportedly circulating within the country’s highest levels of government that he is in critical condition and could die at any time.

According to an exclusive report by IranWire, two sources close to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration said Khamenei has not met with any cabinet members since the February 28 U.S.-Israeli attack on the Supreme Leader’s compound, which reportedly killed his father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, and senior Iranian military and security officials.

The sources told IranWire that Khamenei’s prolonged absence from public view has heightened concerns within Iran’s ruling establishment, with senior political figures reportedly questioning his physical condition and ability to govern.

Since assuming leadership, Mojtaba Khamenei has not made any public appearances or delivered speeches.

Only a handful of letters attributed to him have been released through official news agencies, fuelling speculation about his health.

One source close to President Pezeshkian’s cabinet told IranWire that no cabinet member had met with Khamenei since he assumed office and described his physical condition as poor.

“We would not be surprised if we heard news of his martyrdom soon,” the source said.

IranWire reported that discussions have intensified within sections of Iran’s leadership over the uncertainty surrounding Khamenei’s health and what it could mean for governance if his condition deteriorates further.

Responding to speculation about the Supreme Leader’s health, President Pezeshkian dismissed suggestions that Khamenei was unable to perform his duties.

“The interaction level with our dear Supreme Leader is increasing day by day and should increase so that we can solve our problems with his guidance,” Pezeshkian said.

He maintained that Khamenei continues to direct the country’s affairs despite remaining out of public view.

The concerns come months after the February 28 military operation in which the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes targeting Iran’s military, nuclear and political leadership.

According to IranWire, the attack killed former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, and senior military and security officials, paving the way for Mojtaba Khamenei to assume the country’s highest office.

Since then, his absence from public appearances has continued to fuel speculation over his health, even as Iranian authorities insist he remains actively involved in leading the country.
