LGA Chairman Commissions Pedestrian Steps Along Expressway to Enhance Road Safety

The Chairman of a Local Government Area in Kano State has commissioned newly constructed pedestrian steps on the road median along the busy Kano–Zaria Expressway as part of efforts to improve public safety and ease pedestrian movement.
The project, which is designed to help residents cross the expressway more safely, is expected to reduce the risk of accidents on one of the state’s busiest highways. The pedestrian steps provide a safer alternative for people navigating the road, particularly in areas with heavy vehicular traffic.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the council chairman described the initiative as a people-oriented project aimed at protecting lives and improving infrastructure within the local government area. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority of his administration.
Community members and road users welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new infrastructure would significantly reduce incidents involving pedestrians attempting to cross the expressway.
The Kano–Zaria Expressway serves as a major transportation corridor connecting Kano with neighboring states, making it one of the busiest roads in northern Nigeria. The commissioning of the pedestrian steps highlights the importance of investing in road safety infrastructure to safeguard commuters and residents alike.
Residents have also called for continuous maintenance of the facility and the construction of additional pedestrian safety structures at other high-risk locations across the state.
