“Troops Storm ISWAP Checkpoint, Free 53 Captives in Hail of Gunfire”
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI crushed an ISWAP roadblock on the Buratai–Kamuya highway Wednesday, June 24, 2026, after surveillance cameras spotted terrorists holding up travelers. Soldiers from 135 Special Forces Battalion, Sector 2, launched a Quick Reaction Force team that chased the insurgents toward Mangari–Dora and forced them to flee in a fierce firefight.
The raid freed 53 civilians and recovered 8 vehicles the terrorists had seized. Troops cleared the militants’ escape route and secured the area, with no further contact reported. All rescued persons and vehicles were moved safely to Buratai town for documentation and medical checks.
“Troops acted with professionalism and swift response,” said Capt. Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer. The Theatre Command urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity as forces “maintain an aggressive posture and dominance” across Borno.
