Suspect Dies After Gunfire Incident Near White House
A suspect has died after opening fire on law enforcement officers stationed near the White House on Saturday evening, according to the US Secret Service.
In a statement released on social media, the Secret Service confirmed that officers returned fire during the incident.
“Secret Service police officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital, where he later died,” the statement read.
Authorities also disclosed that a bystander was shot during the incident, although details about the victim’s condition have not yet been made public.
According to a law enforcement official who spoke anonymously to reporters, the suspect was believed to be emotionally disturbed and had previously been issued a “stay-away order.”
No officers were reported injured as investigations continue.
