Government Suspend Headteachers After Viral Video Exposed Pupils Learning In Dilapidated Classrooms

Authorities of the Ezza North Local Government Education Authority have reportedly suspended headteachers of two primary schools in Ebonyi State days after a viral social media video exposed the deplorable condition under which pupils were receiving lessons.
The affected schools are said to include Ekka Integration Primary School and Community Primary School Umuora Obulechi Oriuzor.
The development followed a video shared by local social media platform showing nursery school pupils receiving lessons inside what appeared to be a poorly furnished and deteriorating classroom environment.
The footage, which sparked reactions online, highlighted the condition of schoolchildren learning in classrooms with unfinished block walls, inadequate learning facilities and poor infrastructure.
Following the viral post, suspension letters were reportedly issued to the affected school heads by the education authority.
A copy of one of the suspension letters seen in the viral post carried the heading: “GOVERNMENT OF EBONYI STATE OF NIGERIA, EZZA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT EDUCATION AUTHORITY.”
Part of the letter read, “LETTER OF SUSPENSION.”
The letter further stated that the affected headteacher was being suspended over allegations linked to the circulation of information concerning the schools on social media.
According to the content creator behind the viral video, the school authorities accused the headteachers of inviting him to document and publish the condition of the schools online.
Reacting to the allegation in a post shared alongside copies of the suspension letters, Ezza TV denied being invited by any school official.
“The two headmasters, one in EKKA INTEGRATION PRIMARY SCHOOL in Ezza North LGA and two community primary school Umuora Obulechi Oriuzor have been suspended from work, reason being that, they accuse them, that they were the ones that called me to come and do the video in that school,” the platform wrote.
“Please no one called me, just that I pass there often and I saw the pains of the school children.”
The platform also appealed directly to Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, urging him to intervene in the matter.
“Please my able governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, please look into this matter please,” the post added.
The incident has generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the reported suspension of the school heads instead of addressing the poor state of infrastructure in the affected schools.
Critics argued that the condition of the classrooms reflects the broader challenges facing public primary education in rural communities across parts of Nigeria.
