Sheikh Sani Abdulkadir finally confesses, reveals his involvement with coup plotters
On Monday, 11th of May, Federal High Court in Abuja watched a video recording of alleged confession by sheikh Sani Abdulkadir, the sixth defendant in the ongoing trial of suspects in the failed coup against president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In the video, Sheikh Sani Zaria Abdulkadir told investigators that he warned the coup plotters that they would fail in their bid to topple Tinubu’s government and that they would be exposed.
The video of Sheikh Sani’s confession was played in the court during the continuation of the trial with the fourth prosecution witness, designated PW4, still in the witness box.
In the said video, Sheikh Sani Zaria Abdulkadir described himself as an Islamic cleric, stating that he has known the ringleader of the alleged coup Colonel Ma’aji for less than a year and that he was approached by a man whom he called Sanda for prayers over the success of the coup.
He claimed that Sanda met him to request prayers for his oga whom he said was plotting to stage a coup and needed prayers and divine directive.
According to him, after carrying out prayers for them, he informed them that the plot would fail and that they will be exposed because two of the coup plotters would betray them.
He said his message to the leaders of the coup plotters was conveyed to them through Sanda who also informed him as feedback that the leaders requested more prayers necessary to avert betrayal by the two suspects.
He explained that money was subsequently sent to him for more prayers and for charity–and that the two names of the two suspects who would betray the group, were sent to him for inclusive prayer.
He said a few days after he commenced the prayer, Sanda informed him that the ringleader of the coup plot, Colonel Ma’aji had not been seen for several days and could not be reached. He revealed that he later learnt through the media that Colonel Ma’aji has been arrested in connection to the coup plot.
He emphasized that the funds transfered to him were for prayers and not for his supporting a coup against president Tinubu.
He also told the investigators that he did not report the coup plot to the authority because he did not know whom to report to even though he understood that a coup means military overthrow of the government.
