Sowore: Almost All The INEC National Commissioners Are Members Of The APC
Omoyele Sowore, while speaking during an interview earlier on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, raised concerns about what he described as political influence within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, the structure of appointment into the electoral body gives room for continuous dominance by the ruling party, which he believes undermines its independence.
Sowore argued that as long as the President retains the power to appoint the INEC Chairman, the issue of neutrality in the electoral process will remain a challenge.
He suggested that even if a particular INEC chairman is removed, the system still allows for the appointment of another person under the same influence, thereby maintaining what he sees as partisan control over the institution.
In his words, he stated: “As long as the president appoints INEC chairman, even when they remove this one, they will bring another one.”
Sowore went on to make a stronger claim about the composition of INEC leadership, insisting that political loyalty is not limited to the chairman alone. According to him, “Almost all the INEC National Commissioners are all members of the APC.”
