Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has stated that the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will serve as a platform to highlight the impact of reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, while also allowing the party to reflect on its performance.

“This is not just a convention. This is our eighth national convention since APC was formed,” Dogara said. He added that Nigerians should expect a comprehensive account of the administration’s achievements. “I expect to see stories of how this reformist president has positively impacted many Nigerians,” he noted.

Dogara further explained that the convention would provide an opportunity for the party to evaluate its successes and challenges. He also addressed internal disagreements within APC, describing them as family matters that should be resolved internally.

On the party’s consensus model for selecting candidates, Dogara defended the approach, saying it is legal and strengthens party cohesion.

Highlighting the Tinubu administration’s key initiatives, Dogara pointed to transformative interventions in education, infrastructure, and enterprise funding. “Projects like NELFUND and the coastal road from Sokoto to Badagry are transformative,” he said, adding that support for youth and women-led businesses would positively influence public perception.

Regarding opposition politics, Dogara dismissed claims that APC was interfering with rival parties, asserting that the ruling party cannot be held accountable for the absence of a viable opposition. He also clarified that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is not a member of APC. “Membership is determined by the party’s database. You will not find his name there,” he stated.
