Says the Truth Must Be Told”
I was a dedicated and extremely loyal officer to Aketi. There was a time when I assumed the role of Commissioner of Information, as he wasn’t projecting the gains and Aketi’s image effectively. The Commissioner confided in me that his ministry was underfunded. I took on the role and began promoting Aketi’s agenda vigorously, using my private resources, which led to me inheriting his enemies within Owo and the government circle – individuals close to him who harbored intense dislike for him.
I was part of the inner circle that helped bring him to power. The first political meeting was held at my Lagos residence, and the reception when he became NBA chairman took place at Chevron Club, hosted by me and a few friends.
My Owo home was a regular meeting spot for him and strategic supporters. I have immense faith in him and would take a bullet for him .
When he informed me of my reappointment, many friends advised against it, and I initially declined. However, he involved a prominent figure to persuade me. .
Throughout the panel proceedings, which he described as routine, he was ill, yet we continued to talk, and I thought it would be disloyal to go to the panel highlighting his failure to pay salaries as the core issue. I am a very loyal officer and I remain to him till death but we must put the records straight

Just before the second-term election, he summoned me to Akure, expressing concern we’d lose unless urgent action was taken. He needed funds for RUGIPO salaries. I suggested borrowing three months’ salary from First Bank, which he agreed to. I secured the loan, but post-election, he failed to repay it as promised. This led to significant tension as the bank deducted the loan, interest, and principal, leaving peanuts for the salaries and wages .
When the union. protested, he asked me to proscribe the union and dismiss its leadership. It took months for him to agree to reinstate the secretary.
Regarding the appointment of the Rector, I’d like to clarify that many Owo indigenes mistakenly believe I have influence over this process. The truth is, the Governor appoints Rectors and VCs of institutions, not the Chairman of Council. It’s unfortunate that some Owo natives and ex-students are blaming me for not becoming Rector, when the decision wasn’t mine to make. Although I believe the Rector appointed was the best of them all.
Let me set the record straight: Rectors are appointed by Governors, and I’d never obstruct anyone’s chances.
