NSCDC Arrests Two Suspected Bandits In Kwara Community, Recovers Pistol, Drugs As Third Suspect Escapes

Ilorin, Kwara State– The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspected bandits during an intelligence-driven operation in Saminaka Community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Jubril, 28, and Mohammed Abubakar, 26, were apprehended on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering by operatives of the command who had been monitoring suspicious movements in the area.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson of the command, Ayoola Michael Shola, the suspects were part of a group of three suspicious individuals spotted in a volatile location within the community.

Shola explained that while two of the suspects were successfully arrested during the operation, one member of the group managed to escape and is currently on the run.

He stated that security operatives have already launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspect.

“The suspects, Abubakar Jubril ‘m’ 28yrs and Mohammed Abubakar ‘m’ 26yrs, were apprehended on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, following sustained surveillance by operatives of the command,” the statement read.

“They were among three suspicious individuals sighted in a volatile area; while two were arrested, one suspect escaped and is currently at large. All efforts are being made to ensure the prompt apprehension of the remaining suspect.”

Security operatives also recovered several items from the suspects during the operation, including a firearm and other materials believed to be connected to criminal activities.

Items recovered from the suspects include: A pistol with Serial Number 7835 (Made in USA), A mobile phone, Drugs suspected to be Tramadol and Cigarettes.

 

The suspects were publicly paraded at the command headquarters on Friday, March 6, 2026, where the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga, reaffirmed the agency’s determination to sustain aggressive operations aimed at tackling criminal activities across the state.

Speaking during the parade of the suspects, Commandant Bodinga stressed that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminals have no safe haven in any part of Kwara State.

He warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.

Bodinga stated that the command would continue to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations across communities in order to curb banditry and other forms of criminality.

“The Command remains resolute in sustaining ongoing operations aimed at tackling criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property across the state,” he said.

The commandant further stressed that the NSCDC would not relent in its efforts to track down criminal elements and bring them to justice.

He said, “We will leave no stone unturned to apprehend offenders and ensure the security of residents throughout the state.”

Commandant Bodinga also appealed to residents of Kwara State to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in combating crime and maintaining peace in their communities.

He emphasised that security is a collective responsibility and that public cooperation plays a crucial role in successful crime prevention efforts.

“The Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information that will aid security agencies in combating crime and maintaining peace across the state,” he added.

According to the NSCDC, investigations into the activities of the suspects are ongoing.

The command disclosed that once investigations are concluded, the suspects would either be prosecuted in court or transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and necessary action.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation or will be transferred to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.”
