PDP National Women Leader Dumps Party, Joins APC
According to Ireporter Online, a former National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hajiya Maria Waziri, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.
Waziri announced her decision on Monday during a visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where she arrived alongside a large number of her supporters to formally register with the ruling party. She was warmly received by the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who described her defection as timely and significant for both the APC and the state.
Governor Idris assured Waziri and her supporters of full integration into the party, emphasizing that the APC does not discriminate against new members. He stated that the party remains open to politicians willing to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Kebbi State.
The governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents, noting that development efforts would continue irrespective of political affiliations. He also spoke on his longstanding relationship with Waziri, highlighting her political experience and influence, which he said would strengthen the party and add value to governance in the state.
Also speaking, the Kebbi State Chairman of the APC, Abubakar Kana-Zuru, welcomed Waziri and her supporters, assuring them of equal rights and opportunities within the party. He referenced the achievements of the current administration, adding that Waziri’s decision to join the APC reflected growing confidence in the leadership and direction of the government.
Explaining her defection, Waziri said her decision was motivated by the performance of the APC-led government both in Kebbi State and at the national level. She disclosed that this was her first time switching political parties in nearly two decades, noting that she had spent most of her political career in opposition. According to her, recent developments in governance convinced her that it was time to chart a new political course.
