President Tinubu Directs Immediate Suspension of Governor Fubara’s Impeachment Proceedings

It is allegedly that the President Bola Tinubu has taken fresh action to calm the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, after a closed-door meeting held on February 8, 2026.

Tinubu’s communication to Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, was unambiguous: as the number one citizen of Rivers State, Gov Siminialayi Fubara should be acknowledged as the preeminent political figure in the state, irrespective of party differences.

He emphasized that continued conflict, needless political assemblies, and unguarded comments by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his supporters are weakening governance and imperiling stability in the state. He underscored that such instability will not be condoned under his administration.

At the same time, Tinubu instructed Wike and his allies to desist from any impeachment proceedings against the governor, stressing that the focus should revert to governance and public service. The president further directed that Gov. Siminalayi Fubara’s loyalists be recognized within the ruling party. One of the specified conditions included handing over the APC party structure to Sim, with a caveat that no further action be taken without the Governor’s approval or consent.
