‘Don’t arrest me’: Cleric who claims Saheed Osupa will die makes U-Turn

An Islamic cleric popularly known as Al-Waraqi Olopa Meta recently makes a U-Turn after provoking outrage with an earlier claim that Fuji music icon Saheed Osupa would die on January 10, 2026.

The apology emerged during a phone conversation with another cleric, Sheikh Dr Ahmad Ishola Olanrewaju Alfulany, in an audio recording that has since gone viral on social media. Days before the retraction, Olopa Meta had alarmed fans when he declared that Osupa’s death had been revealed to him by God.

In his initial message, the cleric insisted the vision was divine, saying he swore by the Qur’an and his own life to prove the authenticity of the prophecy.

The statement spread rapidly online, leaving many Fuji lovers shaken, with Nigerians describing the claim as reckless and emotionally damaging.

He had also suggested that the prophecy could be averted if Saheed Osupa carried out a specific religious sacrifice involving a white ram and engaged in intense prayers during which the cleric’s name would be mentioned.

However, the narrative changed after Sheikh Dr Ahmad Ishola Olanrewaju Alfulany confronted him in the telephone discussion. In the recording, Alfulany questioned the basis of the prophecy and challenged the cleric to explain why he made such a sensitive declaration.

Sheik Alfulany further blasts the cleric, stressing that he has been preaching rubbish, telling him to shut up. He noted that people are already monitoring his movement, adding that he would be arrested and suffer for what he said about Saheed Osupa.

Under pressure, Olopa Meta admitted that the statement was not a divine revelation after all. He said it was a strategy to draw the attention of Saheed Osupa, an explanation that has drawn even more reactions from the public.

The development has renewed debates about the responsibility of religious leaders and the impact unverified prophecies can have on artists and their supporters.
