Governor’s Aide Resigns Appointment, Dumps APC for ADC
A former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Niger State on Political Mobilization, Bashir A. Shaba, has announced his resignation from office and his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement made public on Wednesday, Shaba said his decision to step down from the state government and exit the ruling party took immediate effect, describing it as a carefully considered move rather than a hasty political action.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Niger State for the opportunity to serve, noting that his time in the administration offered valuable experience, exposure, and lessons in public service. According to him, serving the people of Niger State in any capacity remains an honour he deeply cherishes.
However, Shaba explained that after extensive consultations and personal reflection, he concluded that he could no longer continue in his role due to growing concerns over the current political climate and governance direction in both Niger State and the country. He stated that these developments no longer align with his personal values, principles, and vision for people-oriented governance.
“Politics should be a vehicle for service, accountability, and leadership that prioritizes the people,” he noted, adding that integrity requires decisive action when personal convictions no longer align with political realities.
Alongside his resignation, Shaba disclosed that he has formally withdrawn his membership from the APC and has chosen to pitch his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a more credible platform for promoting accountability, inclusiveness, and people-driven governance.
He was quick to clarify that his decision was not borne out of animosity toward the Governor or members of the state administration, stressing that he continues to respect the Governor and wishes the Niger State Government success in its developmental efforts.
Describing the move as the beginning of a new chapter, Shaba said his political journey going forward will be guided by conscience, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the people.
He reaffirmed his determination to continue contributing positively to the political development of Niger State and Nigeria, emphasizing that history ultimately favours those who stand firmly by their convictions.
