JUST IN: Resident Doctors Call Off Indefinite Strike After Reaching Fresh Agreement With FG

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its indefinite nationwide strike following a crucial meeting with the Federal Government on Saturday.

The industrial action, which lasted for several weeks, had severely disrupted medical services in teaching hospitals and federal medical centres across the country. The suspension comes after NARD’s National Executive Council reviewed the government’s latest commitments and signed a new Memorandum of Understanding addressing key demands.

According to the association, the decision to call off the strike was influenced by progress made on issues such as payment of arrears, implementation of the new hazard allowance, and steps taken toward correcting doctors’ entry-level placements.

Hospitals are expected to begin restoring full services immediately, as thousands of resident doctors return to duty nationwide. However, NARD warned that it will closely monitor government compliance, adding that the strike could resume if the agreed timelines are not honoured.

The suspension offers relief to millions of Nigerians who rely heavily on public healthcare services.
