JUST IN: Benue Vigilante C0mmander, Herdsman arrested Over Bloody Anwule Åttack
According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, November 24, 2025, operatives of the Benue State Police Command have tåken three indîviduals into custody in connection with the dëadly åttåck on Anwule community in Ohimini Local G0vernment Area, an încident that clåîmed mültiple lîves, înclüding that of a pastor.
The süspects, identified as Isah Peter and Moses Peter from Agatu LGA, along with a Fulani hërdsman, were årrësted after weeks of thorough investigations. Isah, who serves as the acting c0mmander of the Eguma community vîgilånte group, is reported to have used a community-owned fîreårm to carry out the åttåck.
In a statement following his årrest, 22-year-old Isah admitted that he acted under the instrüctions of a man known only as “Pepper,” who allegedly supplied the wëapon used in the attåçk.
He also confessed to being învolved in several vi0lënt incîdents along the Otukpo–Oweto highway.
The Otukpo–Oweto corridor has, over the past year, gained a reputation for însecurity, with frequent åttåcks on travellers, including abductions and kîllings by årmed gångs and rogue vigilante groups. Residents in the area often limit travel to daytime hours or rely on police ëscorts to move såfely.
Human rights activist Meddy Olotu condemned the violence, saying: “It is distürbing that those meant to safeguard communities have become agents of tërr0r.
Sëcurîty ågencies must cårry out a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of travellers along the Otukpo–Oweto highway.”
The police have c0nfirmed that investigations are ongoing, and they anticipate more årrësts as they work to dîsmåntle the crîmînal network responsible for the åttåcks. Authorities assured the public that efforts are being intensified to bring all përpetrat0rs to justice and restore peace in the åffectëd c0mmunîties.
