“We won’t shut the door on criminals who want to embrace peace” – Egbetokun

Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, has responded to recent reports of b@ndits seeking peace deals and ongoing att@cks on police officers, emphasizing a balanced approach of encouraging surrender while maintaining law enforcement.

Addressing the issue of b@ndits coming forward for amnesty, Egbetokun said the police would not shut the door on those willing to embrace peace. “Cr+minals who want to surrender are welcome. However, this does not mean that we will relax our vigilance or enforcement against cr+me,” he stated.

On the growing concern of att@cks on police personnel, the IG condemned such incidents as completely unacceptable. He reminded the public that police officers carry out lawful duties and should not be targeted. “If citizens disagree with the conduct of any officer, they should report them to the relevant authorities rather than resorting to att@cks. Every state has a police command, each division has a DPO, and every area has an area commander. Additionally, the Complaint Response Unit is available across the country, and their contact details have been widely published. All complaints will be properly addressed,” Egbetokun affirmed.

The IG’s statement underscores the police force’s commitment to upholding law and order while providing avenues for dialogue and accountability, balancing enforcement with opportunities for cr+minals to reintegrate into society through surrender programs.
