Another PDP Governor officially dump Party, moves to APC

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced his formal switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. This move adds to a series of high-profile exits from the PDP in recent months.

Kefas shared this news while inspecting renovation work at Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo. He emphasized that his decision is motivated by a commitment to the future and development of Taraba State, rather than personal ambitions. “On November 19, I will officially move from PDP to APC. This is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony,” he stated.

When questioned about any conditions linked to his defection, the governor chose not to elaborate, suggesting that the details would be revealed during his formal announcement. “My speech at the event will clarify the circumstances and allow residents to judge for themselves,” he added.

Political analysts indicate that Kefas’s departure highlights ongoing issues within the PDP, which has experienced significant losses with the exit of several governors from the South-South and South-East regions. Earlier in November, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri left the PDP for the APC, marking a significant political shift in the region.

Diri’s move followed similar decisions by Delta State’s Sheriff Oborevwori, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, and Peter Mbah from Enugu State, who all joined the APC earlier this year.
With Kefas’s anticipated defection, the APC will gain control of 25 states across Nigeria, strengthening its position ahead of the upcoming elections. This decision comes amid rising tensions in the PDP, particularly following the expulsion of key members, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu during the party’s recent national convention in Ibadan.
