Inviting Trump Into Nigeria’s Affairs Is Shameful, Unpatriotic – Sheikh Gumi Blasts Christian Leaders

Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has slammed those supporting U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about military intervention in Nigeria, describing such calls as “shameful and unpatriotic.”

Gumi’s remarks follow Trump’s threat to launch military action in Nigeria over what he called the “mass killing of Christians” by Islamic terrorists.

Reacting in a Facebook post on Thursday, the Kaduna-based scholar warned that allowing Trump to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs would only worsen existing tensions.

“I used to think the South, being more exposed to Western education, would show more patriotism and less inferiority complex toward the West. But I was disappointed by some prominent reactions to Trump’s threats to our sovereignty,” Gumi wrote.

He stressed that Nigeria’s internal conflicts; including communal clashes and herder-farmer crises, are rooted in poverty, poor governance, and moral decay, not religion.

“Inviting a liar, a racist, a supremacist, and a colonialist to interfere on the side of Christians specifically is unpatriotic, shameful, and obnoxious,” he said.

Gumi accused some Christian voices of fueling Islamophobia and warned that foreign interference could turn domestic disputes into a religious war.

“Can’t they see that such a fight will take another dimension?” he asked, adding that most Christians and Muslims still coexist peacefully across the country.

He concluded his message with a prayer: “May Allah protect us all from the Antichrist – the liar. Amin.”
