Man Sets Ex-Lover On Fire Inside Ibadan Military Barracks After ‘Oath Never To Separate’

It was gathered that the suspect, who became enraged after the end of their relationship, poured petrol on the woman before setting her on fire.

Aman identified as Lawal Faruq has reportedly set his ex-lover, Omolola Hassan, ablaze after their relationship turned sour at a military barracks in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred earlier in the week, caused panic within the barracks as residents rushed to the scene after hearing the victim’s cries for help.

It was gathered that the suspect, who became enraged after the end of their relationship, poured petrol on the woman before setting her on fire.

A counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident on X, said the suspect confessed that he and the victim had taken an oath never to separate.

Makama wrote, “The victim, Omolola Hassan, was reportedly doused with petrol and set on fire by the suspect, who was said to have been angered over the breakdown of their relationship.”

The victim reportedly sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“According to witnesses, military personnel at the barracks quickly intervened and extinguished the fire before rushing the victim to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, for medical treatment,” the report said.

“The suspect, who claimed that both had taken an oath never to separate, is currently in custody.”

Confirming the incident to The PUNCH on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said, “Investigation is ongoing.”

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who condemned the increasing cases of violence linked to failed romantic relationships across the country.
