463 Stranded Nigerian, Chadian Migrants Repatriated From Libya
According to Migrants Rescue Watch, the Nigerian returnees were flown out of Libya via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, while the Chadian migrants would be transferred overland and repatriated through the Sara land border crossing into Chad.
The Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in Libya has repatriated a total of 463 migrants of Nigerian and Chadian nationalities with support from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and consular representatives.
According to Migrants Rescue Watch, the Nigerian returnees were flown out of Libya via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, while the Chadian migrants would be transferred overland and repatriated through the Sara land border crossing into Chad.
“DCIM repatriated from Tripoli with consular and IOM support 463 migrants of Chadian and Nigerian nationalities. The Nigerian group was repatriated via Mitiga Int. Airport and the Chadian group will be transferred overland and repatriated via Sara (Chad) land border crossings.”
The coordinated exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities and international partners to facilitate the voluntary return of irregular migrants to their home countries, ensuring their safety.
Thousands of migrants from sub-Saharan Africa remain stranded in Libya, often facing harsh detention conditions as they attempt to transit the North African nation en route to Europe.
