Dr. Olajide Owoka, the leading aspirant for the Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has praised Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what he described as “bold and people-centered governance,” dismissing allegations of misrule as baseless and politically motivated.
Owoka, who is widely regarded as a frontline contender in the party’s leadership race, said the governor has continued to demonstrate vision, resilience, and capacity in steering the ship of Ondo State toward progress. He maintained that rather than misgovernance, the administration is delivering critical interventions in health, education, and agriculture that are touching lives across the state.
He highlighted the governor’s interventions in the health sector, particularly the recently launched free medical treatment initiative for accident victims and the establishment of specialized emergency healthcare centers in Ore, Igbara Oke, and Bolorunduro. According to him, these interventions have saved lives and brought healthcare closer to the people in both urban and rural communities.
Owoka also pointed to the government’s efforts in revamping the education sector, where new classrooms, modern learning equipment, and the rehabilitation of dilapidated school structures have given hope to thousands of pupils and students across the state. “Governor Aiyedatiwa understands that education is the bedrock of any developed society, and his government is ensuring that no child is left behind,” he said.
On agriculture, the APC chairmanship hopeful noted that the administration has expanded the state’s agricultural value chain, empowering farmers with seedlings, fertilizers, and financial support. He explained that the governor has also prioritized the rehabilitation of rural roads to ease the movement of farm produce, thereby strengthening food security and opening Ondo State to agro-allied investment opportunities.
In a sharp rebuke to the critics, Owoka said: “How can some people who are themselves products of stomach infrastructure understand the key elements of development? Development is not about sharing handouts; it is about building lasting legacies in infrastructure, health, education, and other areas of socio-economic growth. That is exactly what Governor Aiyedatiwa is doing in Ondo State.”
He further stressed that “leadership is not about empty rhetoric; it is about results that touch the lives of the people.” According to him, the truth remains that Governor Aiyedatiwa has continued to lead Ondo State in the right direction, building on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and translating it into practical development at the grassroots.
Earlier, a socio-political pressure group, the Ondo Redemption Front, had alleged that the Aiyedatiwa administration recorded two years of misgovernance, accusing it of diverting local government funds, neglecting critical sectors, and failing in leadership capacity. The group, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, claimed governance had collapsed in the state, leaving local government councils “comatose” and worsening rural poverty.
Political observers, however, note that Owoka’s intervention has not only neutralized the opposition’s allegations but also positioned him as a bridge-builder within the APC. By rising boldly in defense of Governor Aiyedatiwa, Owoka has shown the qualities of a unifier and strategist who understands that protecting the party’s legacy and supporting effective leadership is key to securing the future of Ondo State.
