Amotekun Commander Alleges Police Harassment, Threats Against Family, Narrates Surviving Gun Attack
However, he alleged that while he was still receiving treatment, unidentified men believed to be police operatives later stormed his home at night.
The Corps Commander of Amotekun in Osun State, Adekunle Omoyele, has alleged that he and his family are being harassed, victimised, and threatened by the police for “no just cause.”
On Thursday, Omoyele told SaharaReporters that he narrowly escaped death after gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Ikirun, Osun State.
“I closed from work on the 06/10/2025 like any other day and was driving to my house at Dagbolu area of Ikirun when some unknown gunmen levelled up with my car and rained serious bullets on me,” he said.
“The vehicle was riddled with bullets at a place where commercial activities took place, and the people around came for my rescue. I was lucky to have seen my clothes perforated, but I was feeling slight pain around my body.”
Omoyele said the police were called to the scene shortly after the attack.
“The police were contacted, and the DPO, one CSP Bola, a woman, dispatched his patrol team swiftly to the scene. The vehicles were evacuated to the police station, and I was advised to go for medical treatment, which I did,” he explained.
However, he alleged that while he was still receiving treatment, unidentified men believed to be police operatives later stormed his home at night.
Narrating his ordeal, he said, “I was at the hospital when I got the news that some people came to my house and were about to pull down the gate of my building, but the intervention of the neighborhood challenging their presence at the odd hours made them hurriedly enter their waiting unmarked car and a police van that was hidden in the street.
“One of the neighbors caught the identity of one of the gunmen, and to be doubly sure, he called him by name. The episode did not go so well for the leader of the operation.”
According to him, “they sped off and their movement panicked the entire community”.
“I was made to know that it was the police that came to my house masked, knowing that their mission was not well accomplished,” he said.
Omoyele also expressed shock at the police response to the incident, saying, “It was disheartening the second day through their press release that nothing happened to me because they have not received any evidence of assassination.
“The press release that shocked those who witnessed the event and those that saw the riddled car.”
He added that since then, he and his family have been living in fear.
“Since then, they were not comfortable for not knowing my whereabouts because they know the whole world and we discredit the Force. Kindly save my soul and that of my family,” he appealed.
He further identified one of the officers who stormed his house as Bashorun Adekanola Desmond and provided a picture of him.
Earlier, the Osun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, however, accused the Amotekun Commander of framing his assassination attempt.
“The Commander of Amotekun Corps has refused to honour the police invitation. Instead, he took to social media to claim he was attacked by unknown gunmen — a claim our preliminary enquiry revealed to be fictitious and aimed at obstructing justice,” Ojelabi said in a statement on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Monday, shortly after Omoyele closed from duty at the Amotekun Corps Headquarters in Osogbo. He was reportedly driving alone along Ikirun Road, near Kobo, beside Charity Hotel, when masked men opened fire on his vehicle.
According to a statement by the Amotekun Corps on its website, medical sources confirmed that Omoyele sustained gunshot wounds and was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital under tight security. His condition was described as stable, though he remained under close observation.
These developments come amid reports of killings in Akinlalu allegedly carried out by men of the Amotekun Corps, leading to the arrest of 20 of its members by the police on Wednesday.
About 20 operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State were on Wednesday arrested by a police squad in connection with the recent killings in Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area of the state.
The PUNCH reported that the police team, reportedly deployed from Abuja, stormed the Amotekun Operation Base at Oke Fia in Osogbo and the Ife Central Division in Ile-Ife, where several operatives were apprehended.
Sources told the newspaper that, after arresting the Amotekun personnel found at the Ife Central Area Command and Oke Fia Operation Base, the police also sealed off the premises. However, a visit to the State Head Office of the Corps at Powerline Area, Osogbo, around 7:40 p.m., showed that the headquarters had not been sealed.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for Osun Amotekun, Yusuf Idowu, stated that the police had indeed arrested several operatives in relation to the Akinlalu incident.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that tension gripped Akinlalu community in Osun State following revelations that operatives of the Amotekun Corps invaded the area, shooting sporadically and killing several residents, including children and young graduates.
In a video shared by Oriyomi Hamzat, Chairman of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, Oyo State, victims who lost their children to the gruesome hands of Amotekun narrated their experiences.
“They began with my female child, Khadijat, who they shot even though she was with a child before taking her younger one. They shot Khadijat in her two hands, and the people of the community rose, asking, ‘Why would they shoot inside the house?” one of the residents said.
“That’s how they started shooting everyone, that’s how they killed two children from the same mother; both were graduates. They killed another man named Ibrahim.
“My brother’s wife, Iya Ife, was shot in the head. Biola, my third child, is at LAUTECH taking oxygen; they used guns to destroy her internal body system.”
Another resident, who also witnessed the violence, recounted how the officials masked their faces and fired indiscriminately.
“They came and covered their faces. They came with guns. When they shot the first woman, the community members asked why they would shoot her and wanted to rescue her. The Amotekun officials turned their guns on the youths and started shooting to kill them,” the resident said.
“A young resident who does tailoring and was innocently walking, they used a gun to destroy his body.”
