The meeting between the United States President, Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, has commenced in Alaska.

As negotiations aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine proceed, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of continuing killings even amid deliberations.
He stated this in a post on his official X handle.
“On the day of negotiations, the Russians are killing as well. And that speaks volumes. Recently, weʼve discussed with the U.S. and Europeans what can truly work. Everyone needs a just end to the war. Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible to bring the war to an end, and we count on a strong position from America. Everything will depend on this – the Russians factor in American strength. Make no mistake – strength,” he posted.

Trump announced the meeting on social media, with BBC reporting the Kremlin spokesperson as later confirming the date and location, calling Alaska “quite logical” given its proximity to Russia.
The meeting announcement came just hours after Trump suggested that Ukraine might have to cede some territory to end the war, which began in February 2022 with Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“You’re looking at territory that’s been fought over for three and a half years, a lot of Russians have died. A lot of Ukrainians have died,” Trump said at the White House.
“It’s very complicated. We’re going to get some back, we’re going to get some switched. There will be some swapping of territories, to the betterment of both.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in response, firmly rejected the idea of giving up land.
“The answer to the Ukrainian territorial issue is already in the Constitution of Ukraine. No one will and cannot deviate from this. Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier,” he wrote on Telegram.
“Any solutions that are against us, any solutions that are without Ukraine, are at the same time solutions against peace,” Zelensky said, adding that his government is ready for “real solutions” that ensure a lasting peace.
It is unclear what the outcome of the meeting between Trump and Putin would be, but there are hopes of its pivotal role in ending the conflict between Russia and its Ukrainian counterpart.
