Gunmen Kidnap Editor Of Hausa Newspaper On Abuja-Kaduna Highway

Ajournalist and editor of the popular Rariya Hausa online newspaper, Sani Ahmed, has reportedly been abducted by unknown gunmen while travelling from Abuja to Kaduna State.

Comrade Yahaya Abdullahi, a member of the Take-It-Back Movement, told SaharaReporters on Friday that the journalist left Abuja around 8pm and two hours later, at exactly 10pm, sent an emergency message indicating that he had been kidnapped.

Abdullahi said that since receiving the distress message, there has been no further communication from Ahmed, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

“We were together on Sunday during a gathering, and he mentioned that he would be travelling to Kaduna for a programme.

“He left Abuja yesterday’s evening going Kaduna for a programme, unfortunately he only sent a message that he was being kidnapped. Since that time till now we didn’t hear from him anymore,” Abdullahi said.

The incident is the latest in a series of abductions along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, a route notorious for armed attacks and kidnappings in recent years.

Days ago, bandits killed five persons and kidnapped two others in Kaduna State, despite Governor Uba Sani’s highly touted peace model.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacks occurred in multiple locations across the state.

Muhammadu Sani, a resident of Giwa town, confirmed that his family members were among those killed by bandits in Nasarawan Fatika in the Giwa Local Government Area.

According to him, the bandits stormed the village in the early hours of Monday, killing three men: Alhaji Sagir, Mallam Hassan, and Muhammad.

Sani further stated that the victims, who were the primary breadwinners for their families, left behind dozens of dependents, triggering a severe economic crisis amid the current hardships.

In a separate incident on Sunday around 2:30pm, bandits attacked and killed Badamasi Sani on his farm in Galadimawa village, Giwa Local Government Area.

Witnesses reported sporadic gunfire, and some of Sani’s cattle were later found with bullet wounds.

Bandits in another attack in the Keke area of Millennium City in Chikun Local Government Area, killed one Malam Ibrahim Danjuma and kidnapped his son and one relation.

Danjuma’s wife was injured during the attack, and presently receiving medical attention.

The attacks have raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Kaduna Peace Model, which was touted by Governor Sani as a solution to insecurity in the state.
