Hunter Kills Giant Hippopotamus in Edo Community

Residents of Anegbette, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, were thrown into excitement after a local vigilante, Patrick David, killed a giant hippopotamus along the Okumuzo River, a tributary of the Alika River.

The massive animal, described by witnesses as “three times the size of a cow,” was spotted near the riverside before being shot. Crowds gathered to watch as the carcass was pulled from the shallow waters, with residents chanting in celebration.

A community member, Innocent Oshafi, described the event as an unforgettable moment, noting that such a sight was rare in the area. The animal was later butchered, providing meat for locals.

Hippos are uncommon in this part of Nigeria, making the incident both unusual and significant. The event also highlighted the role of community vigilantes in protecting residents from perceived threats.
