“I Don’t Need Your Certificate To Succeed”- Corps Member Raye Fires Back At NYSC

Lagos State corps member Ushie Rita, popularly known as Raye, has issued a bold response to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over its decision to withhold her Certificate of National Service, declaring that her life remains fulfilling without it.

Speaking during a live TikTok session, Rita accused the NYSC of attempting to project an image of being “unshakeable” while alleging that some of its officials violate the very rules they enforce.

“I never had that certificate, yet my life has been fine. NYSC insists they won’t give it to me, and they’re trying to show they can’t be moved. Meanwhile, some of their own people are the ones breaking the rules. I’m no longer interested in the certificate,” she said.

When asked if she would comply with the two-month service extension imposed by the scheme, she avoided giving a direct answer.

Earlier, the NYSC denied online claims that Rita was being sanctioned over her criticism of the government. The organisation described the allegations as “baseless,” stressing that her punishment was due to “valid disciplinary reasons.”

According to the NYSC, Rita is among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for various offences. The agency explained that her service year was extended after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise, a sanction it said was in line with its bye-laws.
