Governor Dissolves All Sports Boards

Governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered the immediate dissolution of all sports association boards under the Benue State Sports Council.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, in Makurdi.

According to the commissioner, the decision was taken to allow the sports council to realign with the schedule of upcoming elections at the National Sports Commission and various federations.

The move comes as part of efforts to prepare the state for fresh sports leadership ahead of new national timelines.

While the boards have been disbanded, the commissioner acknowledged the previous chairpersons and members for their efforts in supporting different sports within the state.

He also called on them to remain open to future roles as the government continues its work in improving sports development in Benue.

The development marks a major shake-up in the state’s sports structure, with expectations that new appointments and changes will follow in the coming months.
