Major Shake-up hits APC as more Senators dump party for ADC
Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani and Senator Halliru Jika—have officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a deepening wave of defections ahead of the 2027 general elections. Senator Halliru Jika, who previously served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs during the 9th National Assembly, confirmed his defection after a brief return to the APC.
Jika, a former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 Bauchi State election, had only recently rejoined the APC before pulling out again. His move to the ADC is seen as part of wider realignments among Northern politicians looking to consolidate ahead of future political contests.
Joining him is Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, the APC’s governorship candidate in Adamawa State during the 2023 elections and one of the most high-profile female politicians in Nigeria. Her defection to the ADC marks a major loss for the ruling party in the Northeast and could significantly shift political dynamics in the region.
