Obasanjo Opens Up on Deep-Rooted Igbophobia in Nigeria’s Leadership Circle

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dropped a bombshell that’s igniting serious discussions all over the nation. Reflecting on his time in office, he shared a striking comment he once received:

One day somebody said to him; “You’ve destroyed Nigeria’s economy.”

OBJ ask how and why?

“An Igbo woman as Minister of Finance. An Igbo man as CBN Governor? Clearly, you’ve finished the job of ruining Nigeria.”

Obasanjo didn’t hold back. He called it exactly what it is: blatant Igbophobia. A deep-seated fear and hatred of Igbo talent and leadership.

He continued with a powerful message:

“I don’t take that lightly — it’s still here, it’s still real. But what can we do about it? We must overcome evil with good.”

This isn’t just a matter of tr!balism — it’s a harsh reminder that ethn!c hatred still thrives in high places. When the skills from the Southeast are viewed as a threat, how can Nigeria ever hope to progress?
