4 siblings killed as cattle rustlers attack plateau community
Four people have been killed by thieves suspected to be Fulani cattle rustlers in Gwom Gada community in Kadunu Ward, Gindiri area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Mangu Local Government Chairman, Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, who confirmed the attack, said that two other persons were injured in the incident, which happened on Friday last week.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press to the Executive Chairman, Jeremiah Dakahap, he said the rustlers, armed with heavy weapons, swooped on the community, killing four innocent people, including three children from the same family, aged 18, 7, 5 and 2.
He said the victims, identified as Tanko Adamu’s children and a neighbour, were caught in the midst of the violence.
Mwolpun sympathised with the bereaved families and the community at large. He condemned the heinous act, describing it as “unacceptable and inhumane.”
“We are deeply saddened by this senseless violence. We stand with the community and the affected families, and we will do everything possible to support the community to prevent similar incident from occuring again,” Mwolpun said.
The chairman specifically instructed that the security personnel should increase their presence in the community to prevent further attacks.
The community, still reeling from the shock of the attack, has called for increased security measures to protect them from such attacks in future.
The Sector Commander, Operation Enduring Peace, Col Fagbemi, who accompanied the chairman, assured the community that more security personnel would be deployed immediately to ensure such an act does not reoccur again.
Mwolpun and his entourage later visited the gravesite, prayed for the repose of the deceased, wished the injured a speedy recovery and took responsibility for their hospital bills.
In his entourage were the Deputy Chairman, Hon Nuhu Yakwen, Chief of Staff, Hon Samson Langkuk, among others.
