37-Year-Old Bricklayer Dies After Drinking Competition in Abakaliki
A tragic incident has thrown the Abakaliki community of Ebonyi State into mourning after a 37-year-old bricklayer, identified as Ndubuisi Elom, died following a drinking competition gone wrong.
The unfortunate event occurred on November 30, 2025, after Ndubuisi reportedly entered into a bet with friends and acquaintances. According to local sources, the competition involved consuming a dangerous mixture of dry gin, assorted alcoholic beverages, and local herbal concoctions—a combination known to pose severe health risks.
Witnesses said the father of two was motivated by the promise of a cash reward should he outdrink other contestants. However, shortly after ingesting the heavy concoction, Ndubuisi allegedly collapsed. All efforts by those present to revive him proved unsuccessful.
He was rushed to a nearby medical facility where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
