22-Year-Old Hairdresser commits suicide After Discovering Boyfriend’s Infidelity

A 22-year-old hairdresser identified as Chidinma (surname withheld) has reportedly taken her own life in Enugu State after finding out that her boyfriend, for whom she had sacrificed so much, was cheating on her.

According to reports circulating on social media and confirmed by sources close to the deceased, Chidinma had been in a relationship with a young man she was said to love deeply. Despite her modest means, she reportedly went as far as renting an apartment for him and even bought him a car to support his mobility and business.

However, things took a tragic turn when she discovered that the boyfriend had been cheating on her with another woman.

Overwhelmed by heartbreak and betrayal, she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance in her apartment, leading to her untimely death.

Eyewitnesses claim that before taking her life, Chidinma posted a cryptic message on her WhatsApp status that hinted at emotional distress, writing:
“I gave you everything I had, but you chose to hurt me this way. I hope you remember me forever.”

Neighbors rushed her to the hospital after finding her unconscious, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The incident has sparked emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing sadness and anger over the growing number of suicide cases linked to emotional heartbreak and toxic relationships.

A Facebook user who claimed to be her friend wrote:
“She was so kind and hardworking. She didn’t deserve this. It’s painful that love could push someone to this point.”
Police authorities in Enugu have not yet issued an official statement as of the time of filing this report, but investigations are said to be ongoing.

Meanwhile, mental health advocates are calling on young people to seek help and not resort to self-harm when faced with emotional pain. They emphasized the importance of counseling, family support, and awareness of the dangers of depression.
