₦50m Scandal Rocks House  Assembly as Lawmakers Move to Sack Speaker

A fresh crisis has erupted in the Ondo State House of Assembly as twelve lawmakers have passed a Vote of No Confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, accusing him of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

In a formally signed resolution dated 13th November 2025, the lawmakers alleged that the Speaker diverted ₦50 million appropriated for a public hearing and mismanaged the House’s monthly operational grants.

The members insist the actions allegedly committed by the Speaker violate multiple provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), including the Fifth Schedule on abuse of office, and the Seventh Schedule on violation of the Oath of Office. They also cite provisions of the ICPC Act (Section 19) and Section 390 of the Criminal Code, which criminalise abuse of office and stealing by a public official.

According to the aggrieved lawmakers, Oladiji’s alleged infractions constitute gross misconduct as defined under Section 188(11) of the Constitution and have “gravely impaired the institutional integrity and lawful operations of the House.”

The group has further demanded that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) immediately invite the Speaker for investigation and prosecution where necessary, including recovery of the alleged misappropriated funds.

The resolution was endorsed by the following members:
Hon. Jide Oguntodu (Akure South I),
Hon. Temitope Akomolafe (Ifedore),
Hon. Fatai Atere (Akoko North-West I),
Hon. Toyin Japhet (Akoko North-East),
Hon. Raymond Daodu (Akoko South-West I),
Hon. Samuel Ifabiyi (Odigbo I),
Hon. Babatunde Fasonu (Odigbo II),
Hon. Princess Oluwatosin Ogunlowo (Idanre),
Hon. Afe Felix (Akoko North-West II),
Hon. Nelson Akinsuroju (Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo),
Rt. Hon. Prince Akinruntan Abayomi (Ilaje I),
and Hon. Stephen Abitogun (Akure South II).

The Speaker has not yet issued a public response at the time of filing this report.
